Tom Lewis founded a homebuilding company in Arizona and positioned it to create “particular homes for particular people.” It was particularly successful. At its peak in 2006 it constructed 320 houses for about $250 million in revenue.

After his own battle with cancer, Tom Lewis, founder of the T.W. Lewis Foundation, donated $2 million to match donor gifts dollar-for-dollar to create a Melanoma Center of Excellence at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center.

You know, in philanthropy, there’s a number of things you can give. You can give your time, you can give your money, you can give your input, and then you can be an advocate for each of the organizations.

As an active philanthropist, this was probably the easiest decision I’ve ever made. Started my own company in 1991, and we sold it in 2011.
